Hello Brew Crew,

In this edition we drink stories from Chicago’s 12 oldest bars, discover the globe’s cheapest beer prices and learn why pilsners developed a love-hate relationship with craft beer drinkers.

Cheapcago

Chicago is one of only four U.S. cities to make GoEuro’s top 50 list of cheapest beer prices globally. The Windy City prices out at $4.48 for the average cost of a beer purchased either in a bar or in a supermarket. L.A., Boston and San Francisco rank ahead of Chicago. [Complex]

Green Mill Gardens

Bootleggers, mobsters and secret trap doors are but a few of the stories still alive in Chicago’s 12 oldest bars. The Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, Southport Lanes and Durkins are several of our favorite historic pubs home to mouth watering tales. [DNAinfo]

Micro Meets Macro

You may want to take this news sitting down. Chicago’s “Off Color Brewing” is collaborating on a new brew–with Miller High Life. The beer is set for release later this summer. Meanwhile, cats and dogs are now freely cohabiting homes across America. [Beer Street Journal]

Regrained

“This granola bar taste delicious,” said no one ever. However, a San Francisco based company called ‘Regrained” is attempting to make delicious tasting granola bars made from leftover brewing grains. Honey Almond IPA and Chocolate Coffee Stout are two flavors the company has created. So at least you have the option of knowingly eating a granola bar made from waste instead of suspecting it was. I’m told Regrained taste delicious. [Tech Insider]

Love Hate Pils

Depending on who you ask, Pilsners are either beers of beauty or panther pee. Whatever your tastes, there’s no denying the classic Czech and German pilsner lagers are an important staple of the craft beer boom. [Paste]
